About Catherine Warmerdam

I’m a mixed media artist who is drawn to vibrant colors and patterns. My body of work includes playful collages crafted from hand-painted paper; hand-stamped, intricately patterned works on paper; and richly layered mixed media pieces that are the product of both intention and serendipity.

Visual art became my preferred mode of expression after a long career as a writer. I create things in an attempt to make sense of the world and my place in it.

I draw inspiration from textiles and improvisational quilts, flowers, poetry, music, architecture, travel and children's books, among other things. My work explores concepts of joy, impermanence, hope and truth while celebrating imperfection and the beauty of everyday objects and experiences.
