Artist FAQ

What is an artist open studios tour?

The central component of Sac Open Studios is an artist open studios tour which spans the middle two weekends of September. We define an artist open studios tour as a self-guided tour in which artists open up their studios, work spaces, backyards, or other spaces to showcase their art and meet the public. Depending on their studio location, each artist will open their studio for either Weekend 1 or Weekend 2.

How much does it cost to participate?

$175 regular and $150 for members. There are also a limited number of scholarships available which are intended for artists experiencing true financial hardship. If you are unable to afford the registration fee, please fill out the scholarship form HERE. Scholarship applications MUST be submitted by April 20, 2024 to be considered. All applications will be reviewed by the selection committee on a rolling basis. Applicants will be notified by no later than April 27, 2024.

Is the fee for each individual artist or per studio space?

The Sac Open Studios fee is per each individual artist. Every artist who participates in the program must register individually.

I’m an artist but don’t have a studio within the tour boundaries. May I still participate?

Yes! Many artists who don’t have studios within the tour boundaries find local businesses or fellow artists within the tour boundaries to host them during the Weekend 1 or Weekend 2 of the tour.

I don’t have an art studio. May I still participate?

Definitely! While plenty of the participating artists have traditional work spaces in studio facilities, many Sac Open Studios artists open their home studios or utilize other spaces to display their art during their assigned weekend.

Which weekend do I register for, Weekend 1 or Weekend 2?

Sac Open Studios takes place over two weekends and includes both Sacramento and Yolo Counties.

Weekend 1 includes studios that are located west of I-80/Hwy 99 including Davis, West Sacramento, Woodland, North Sacramento, Downtown, Midtown, Land Park, and Curtis Park.
