Artist FAQ

What is an artist open studios tour?

The central component of Sac Open Studios is an artist open studios tour which spans the middle two weekends of September. We define an artist open studios tour as a self-guided tour in which artists open up their studios, work spaces, backyards, or other spaces to showcase their art and meet the public. Depending on their studio location, each artist will open their studio for either Weekend 1 or Weekend 2.

How do I register for Sac Open Studios?

Find the link to the registration form at www.sacopenstudios.com or click on the Sac Open Studios tab on the vergecontemporary.org website. You may also use this direct link to the registration form: https://tinyurl.com/SOSREG2022

How much does it cost to participate?

$150 regular and $99 for members. There are also a limited number of scholarships available. Email sacopenstudios@vergecontemporary.org for scholarship information.

Is the fee for each individual artist or per studio space?

The Sac Open Studios fee is per each individual artist. Every artist who participates in the program must register individually.

I’m an artist but don’t have a studio within the tour boundaries. May I still participate?

Yes! Many artists who don’t have studios within the tour boundaries find local businesses or fellow artists within the tour boundaries to host them during the Weekend 1 or Weekend 2 of the tour.

I don’t have an art studio. May I still participate?

Definitely! While plenty of the participating artists have traditional work spaces in studio facilities, many Sac Open Studios artists open their home studios or utilize other spaces to display their art during their assigned weekend.

Which weekend do I register for, Weekend 1 or Weekend 2?

Sac Open Studios takes place over two weekends.

Weekend 1 includes studios that are located west of I-80/Hwy 99 including West Sacramento, Woodland, North Sacramento, Downtown, Midtown, Land Park, and Curtis Park.

Weekend 2 includes studios east of I-80/Hwy 99 plus all of Elk Grove including Citrus Heights,  Folsom, Fair Oaks, Carmichael, Rancho Cordova, Arden-Arcade, College Park, East Sacramento, Oak Park, Tahoe Park, South Sacramento, Elk Grove, Herald, Galt, Walnut Grove, and Isleton. If you have any questions about what weekend you should register for, email us at sacopenstudios@vergecontemporary.org to ask.

Am I required to be at my studio for the full two days of my weekend?

Yes, all registered artists are required to be present at their studio (or have someone cover for them) from 10am – 5pm on both days of their weekend.

Is there a place to connect with other participating artists?
