Nature, music and family continue to resurface as I read statements from years past. Layers of paint mirror layers from my life experiences throughout this creative history. My art practice of blended, bled, scumbled and energetic mark making become inherent symbols by way of my emotional response. My use of selected collage elements, painting and drawing under and over, form lively organic and geometric shapes. This stems from a Cubist influence early on, and later combined with the freedom I felt from exposure to Abstract Expressionism in graduate school on the east coast. I love a tactile feel and achieve this with a symphony of colorful oils, oil pastels, ink, acrylic and elements like sand collected from adventures. The work brings focus to the importance of the picture plane as part of my ongoing exploration. Older work from my development shares a relationship to new work, yet the path evolves in different directions. I paint en plein air when traveling, draw musicians during performance, and have an ongoing environmental art project; each inspire and inform my abstracts
