Elise Weber's interdisciplinary work explores aesthetic memory through new fauvist forms and queer imagery. Connecting with her community, Weber continues her exploration of identity in her gum prints. Interviewing her sitter about their identity she explores how art, media and literature play a roll in identity politics.
This year at Open Studios Weber will debut a new photographic series. Cyanotype and gum prints of nude queer figures show how each person connects with and honors their body. This archive is a project that will continue to evolve and grow over the next several years.
Weber's work has been recently exhibited in Sacramento, CA; Los Angeles, CA; Houston, TX; Nantes, FR; San Antonio, TX; Denver, CO, Marfa, TX; and Hudson, NY.
Weber studied photography at Sam Houston State University to receive her Bachelor of Fine Arts. Awarded the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Fellowship, Weber continued her education at the University of Houston as a graduate teaching fellow. This year she was awarded a juried prize for the 15th Annual Axis Juried Show in Sacramento. Weber currently practices in Sacramento, California while teaching at Napa Valley College.
