About D. González

Born in Guanajuato, Mexico, D. González is a self-taught artist. His focus is oils on canvas, but works also include watercolors, mixed media and sculptures. Influenced by surrealist techniques, D. González uses vivid color and distinct imagery to challenge viewers’ social, political and cultural beliefs

D. González is an original participant of the Royal Chicano Air Force (RCAF), an artistic collective based in Sacramento, CA. He is also a founding member of Artistas del Valle, an artist collaborative based in Stockton, CA. As a pioneer member of the Lodi Arts Commission, he created the Young Renaissance Art Project, an art competition for local Junior and Senior High School students. His studio gallery is located in the Hollywood Park area of Sacramento, CA.

Friday Sept 11   1-4pm

1pm: Virtual Studio Tour
Come along with Artist D. González as he gives you a personal virtual tour of his Sacramento art studio, located in Hollywood Park. Get a behind-the-scenes look at how he converted an old church into a space for his creativity and vision.

2pm: Artist Interview
Get to know Artist D. González’ perspective through his personal history, imagination and passion for art. We’ll dive deep into - living your passion, art and fear and one’s identity as an artist.

3pm: Painting Selection & Discussion
Get personal insight from the Artist on 3 paintings to hear what inspired each piece. You’ll learn about his imagery, techniques and how culture and societal events influence his work.

Saturday Sept 12   1-4pm

1pm: Virtual Studio Tour

2pm: Objects of Influence
An artist’s eye always finds intrigue in the unordinary. Find out which 5 unique objects González used as catalysts for creating the symbolism in 5 different paintings.

3pm: Sculpture Selection & Discussion
Go beyond the canvas with Artist D. González as he crosses over to talk about his sculptures. Be up close to three 3-dimensional works of art ranging from satirical whimsy to socio-political.

Do you have kids or teens interested in art? Join Sofia Cuellar, McClatchy High School, Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Student as she interviews Artist D. González (her Grandfather) to learn what his experience was like to be a teenager who loved art. 

3pm: Works by Decades
Go on a virtual journey with Artist D. González as he takes you through each decade of his work and witness the evolution of his imagination.
