About Karen Hamilton
I love being outdoors and go regularly to a favorite place south of Sacramento near the Cosumnes River Preserve. I love the birds, the water, trees and plants; the Delta sky. Making art encourages me to be more attentive to what I am seeing, hearing and feeling. It helps me to slow down and appreciate my life.
I started making mixed media collage paintings in 2006 after a pilgrimage in China honoring Kuan-Yin, Chinese Buddhist exemplar of infinite compassion. When I incorporated papers and photographic images collected on the trip into my paintings, they became more abstract – and more surprising. I continue to use this process because it encourages me to step back and let the paintings develop themselves.
**For this year's Open Studio, I will be clearing out my storage room to offer works large and small, in various styles and media - all at discounted prices!
