About Laurie Kneppel

I am a native Sacramentan, and have been working in clay since the 1970's, with a 10 year break during the '80's. My first ceramics teachers were Ruth Rippon and Peter Vandenberge at CSUS. 17 years later I learned about raku firing at Sac City College from Teiko Sasser. Eventually I took more classes from Yoshio Taylor and Linnell Barnhart over at Cosumnes River College. I love a good visual pun and a touch of whimsy in my sculptures. My functional pottery should both look and feel good when used. I work primarily in stoneware and porcelain and glaze fire my wheel-thrown functional pottery to Cone 10 (2345 F) in a gas kiln. Sculptures are normally either fired in a raku kiln to 1850 degrees F or are fired at cone 06 (1850 F) temperatures in an electric kiln where I can take advantage of bright colors found in that temperature range. I also make tiles and do some hand building. I do a few local art and fine craft shows per year and am a member of the Sacramento Potter's Group/Art by Fire.
