About Joseph Bellacera
I gather inspiration from visual phenomenon such as observations of patterns contained within the landscape. For example, aerial views of agricultural fields, crystalline rock formations and web structures. In particular, my artwork is concerned with how the qualities of space, light, and pattern stimulate experiences of coherence, connection and wholeness. In the work I am currently developing, I create fields of light and color permeated with topographic patterning. I call this “mapping energy fields.”
As quantum physics informs us, particles known as photons emanate from light and are the very basis of matter and indeed create our experience of perception. Using elements of the landscape and its underlying micro and macro configurations in both structured and random arrangements with many transparent layers of oils, acrylics, and digital components I endeavor to see how it is possible to “map” our perceptions in such aesthetic ways as to imaginatively inspire elevated emotional states and provoke fresh ways of seeing, setting aside for a moment conventional thoughts about time and space. It is my intention that these combinations inspire a sense of mystery and the awe of discovery.
