About Linsey Martin
Hello my name is Linsey Martin from Mālama Macramé. You can find me on IG @malamamacrame
One way I enjoy expressing creativity and connecting to community is through the textile art of Macramé. Macramé is believed to have originated with 13th century Arab weavers. The Spanish word macramé is derived from the Arabic migramah believed to mean “ornamental fringe” or “embroidered veil.”
I am self taught and began my macrame journey when I was 19 years old over 30 years ago. While living on Maui, HI. in Lahaina Town I started making hemp jewelry that I put on consignment in a small shop on Front St. With all the natural beauty that surrounded me and the aloha spirit as my guide I found my inspiration from natural elements like sea shells and driftwood. This is where the seed was planted to create.
