About Velma Davidson

My inspiration to become an artist was influenced by observing nature and the changing seasons in the rolling hills of southeastern Indiana near the Ohio River where I grew up. I studied painting, sculpture, and art history in high school and college. After moving to California, I studied painting with Susan Sarback and Rhonda Egan.

I enjoy the French Impressionist style of painting; loose brush strokes and vibrant use of color to capture the fleeting changes in the landscape. Hiking along the American River, in the Sierra Nevada, at the Bodega Headlands, and trips to Indiana provides an unending source of material for my landscape paintings. I participate in the Yolo Art and Ag Project. I take photographs and use them for reference when I cannot finish a painting on location.
